On Stage

Mads and Peppino Ave Maria

This professional music duo needed a recording of their performance to promote an upcoming show.

They also wanted a professional audio recording to go with the video. We shot 4 songs in one day. The video was recorded in 4K from 3 different angles plus 2 close ups.

The audio was digitally recorded on-site and mildly touched-up at a professional music studio.

The result is a beautiful music video where the subjects are highlighted perfectly. The video shooting and the editing does not draw attention to itself, but rather works as a subtle enhancement to the presentation of the music piece.

In the Wild

VOENA Unstoppable (cover)

When you hear "children’s choir", you probably think of squeaky voices, some slightly off key, with some slightly behind or ahead of the music. Not this children’s choir. VOENA is a professional-quality choir. They sing on key and in time. They play instruments, and they give a fantastic performance every time. They don’t just sing, they become the song.

This video was shot entirely on the south shore of the Carquinez Straight at the site of a former restaurant that burned down years ago. It was a cold, windy day. The kids were shivering in between takes. When I called "Action!" they came to life and sang their hearts out, defiantly into the wind.

Immediately following the video shoot these kids went to a professional recording studio and recorded the audio for this video.

Professional percussionist Richard Sherwood brought his Drumdala up from Southern California and David Gonzales added power accents with his huge Taiko drum.

The bass line was added by Matt Bissonette. You may have seen or heard him play with ELO, David Lee Roth, Ringo Starr, or Elton John.

This video is the result of about 10 different takes shot in 4k and all synced to the professional studio recording later.

Virtual Choir

VOENA Imagine (cover)

Dugin the Covid 19 lockdown, choirs needed a way to create, sing, and perform together. VOENA’s choir director asked me if I could do a virtual choir music video. I said, "Yes", of course.

On stage, choir members can fake it if they don’t know when to come in, or if they forget their part. In a virtual choir, each member has to record their part alone. There is no where to hide and if you don’t know your part, it is very obvious.

The audio you are hearing is really their recordings on their cell phones that they sent to me. I had to sync all 44 videos up together to create the final video.

I was given free rein and complete creative control. After listening to the song a couple of times, I knew what I wanted to do. The singers come and go to accent the beautiful lyrics and help carry the video visually, since the kids were very limited in their movement.

Studio Recording

Remi Moulder I Thank God

I had done some work for Remi at an event he was running. He then told me he was recording 4 songs and wanted me to make a music video of him performing these songs as he recorded them.

Each song was to be recorded straight through from start to finish. They were preformed in a living room converted into a recording studio. Space and lighting were both challenges. Remi had accidentally worn a jacket that was close in color to the curtains behind him. I adjusted the color balance and contrast slightly to make him stand out from the background without making the video look unnatural.

Because of the nature of this shoot, a single hand-held 4k camera does most of the work making this video visually exciting.
