I had done some work for Remi at an event he was running. He then told me he
was recording 4 songs and wanted me to make a music video of him performing
these songs as he recorded them.
Each song was to be recorded straight through from start to finish. They were
preformed in a living room converted into a recording studio. Space and lighting
were both challenges. Remi had accidentally worn a jacket that was close in
color to the curtains behind him. I adjusted the color balance and contrast
slightly to make him stand out from the background without making the video
look unnatural.
Because of the nature of this shoot, a single hand-held 4k camera does most of
the work making this video visually exciting.
Remi Moulder Battle Belongs
The drummer was a big part of the sound. He played more than just the beat
and made the songs seem more full. A second camera was mounted to record
his impressive drumming in the song.
The bass player was not axious to be on camera. Remi filled in vocals
with harmonies.
After the audio was mixed, they sent it to me. It was pretty easy to
match up the videos with the audio, because they were from the same take.
The centerpieces of the videos were really Remis vocals and his lead
guitar playing. The hand-held camera made the most of movement and close-ups
to capture the action.
The big challenge was lighting. Outdoors, during the day there is plenty of
light. Indoors, ususally needs lighting to be brought in. We did this shoot
with minimal lighting. The videos came out a little flat and had to be
color-corected and contrast enhanced to give them a little "pop".
